EcOzone is a sterilization system which eliminates all crop storage and distribution problems caused by fungus, bacteria, bugs and vermin. One treatment eliminates all these problems quickly and economically.

         The solution to low cost environmentally friendly sterilization

Insects, moulds, fungi, bacteria, viruses and vermin are the bane of agricultural production, storage and distribution. Current methods used to deal with these infestations are costly and labour intensive. None are comprehensive, none are fully effective, most leave chemical residues.

Ozone is a very efficient sterilizer because of its strong oxidizing properties. It has the benefit of being able to oxidize most organic matter and is capable of destroying a wide range of pathogens, including prions, without the need for handling hazardous chemicals

EcOzone is the first machine of its kind that can generate large quantities of ozone. In fact it can sterilize an entire full silo at a tenth of the cost, in a tenth of the time. It uses only electricity; a 20 amp 220 volt connection is all that is needed. There is no environmental downside.

The EcOzone ozone generator is an integrated mobile unit complete with comprehensive safety and control systems that calculate the exact concentration, duration and flow of ozone to ensure complete sterilization. The equipment is being successfully used on wheat, maize, barley, potatoes, onions, garlic, carrots, apples, and bananas.

                            Current Treatments

The battle against crop infestations begins in the fields and continues during storage and shipping.

In the fields there are limited options. The various pesticides aimed at various infestations have limited efficacy and they cannot deal with all threats. The amounts needed to guarantee sterilization would pollute the crop let alone the surrounding environment. There are natural pesticides but they are no better.

During storage the problem is more insidious. Even with the most careful pest control small infestations can escape inspections and grow exponentially. The lack of natural enemies and the ample supply of food provide ideal circumstances for reproduction. An unnoticed infection can lead to a complete loss in a matter of months.

In the case of pests such as insects and rodents fumigation is the most widely used method for controlling infestations. While effective it is expensive, requires a lot of human resources and time, and is damaging to the environment. More important it does not solve the problem of molds, fungi, bacteria and viruses carried in from the fields.

For molds, fungi, bacteria and viruses an arsenal of technologies is being used: organic acids, various chemicals, poison gases, drying, heat treatments and radiation. The problem is that none are fully effective, and again they are expensive, time consuming and many are damaging to the environment. Worse is the fact that the poisons used all leave residues to some extent.

In the case of organic farming most of these widely used methods are out of the question. Therefore more drastic and expensive methods must be used to preserve the harvest, such as burying them in diatomaceous earth.

Most important of all is that no treatment reduces the levels of toxins already in the crops once they are infected.

                                 Ozone Sterilization

Ozone offers many advantages as a sterilant gas. Ozone is a highly reactive form of oxygen that can oxidize most organic matter including nearly indestructible prions. While it is necessarily toxic it is also unstable, with a 30 minute half life it quickly reverts to normal oxygen in hours. Ozone reaches negligible levels well before any chemical sterilant can reach safe levels.

On the other hand the fact that it is unstable means that it must be produced on site so it has not always been practical. It is used industrially to sterilize water and air, in specialized applications such as medical instruments, to deodorize trucks and transport containers, to disinfect surfaces.

Until now ozone has not been used for stored agricultural crops. There have been attempts but with too little ozone there was no guarantee of sterilization, with too much the crop and its storage container were damaged. The EcOzone sterilization system is the first and only one capable of dealing with all crop infestations efficiently and cost effectively.

                                       EcOzone

The EcOzone ozone generator is an integrated mobile unit complete with comprehensive safety and control systems. It is suitable for use in silos with airing platforms, traditional flat houses and flat hoses with airing platforms. The unit uses less power than a household clothes dryer and is no louder.

The EcOzone generator can be maneuvered into place by two men where it is connected to the storage unit's ventilation intake. The control unit calculates the concentration, flow, running time, waiting time and number of run cycles for each application. All operating conditions are monitored including power consumption and running time.

The running time is typically 8 to 16 hours; no additional ventilation is required nor recommended. The actual duration depends on the level of contamination as well as the type of storage facility. The treated crops can be handled without protection within 3 hours and the goods can be shipped within a day.

In effect The EcOzone system will completely sterilize agricultural goods in 2 days as compared to ineffective fumigation treatments lasting weeks.
